- Abstract
False brinelling and fretting corrosion occur in oscillating bearings. A simulation will be used to predict wear by calculating the frictional work in a contact between roller and raceway. A sub-model of the bearing is generated containing the ball and the raceway section of the inner and outer ring. This ensures a realistic approach of the problem where the degrees of freedom of the ball are only restricted by frictional forces of the contact surfaces. The appearance of wear in experimental investigations were compared with the density of frictional work of the simulations. The comparison between simulations and experimental results show good consistencies. Furthermore, the simulation results explain the characteristic shapes of false brinelling and fretting corrosion.
